Gangland gunfire has cops on edge

A long-running gang war continued with a brazen daylight shooting in the Beltline this week. A man was getting into a parked car at Sixth St. and 15th Ave. S.W. on Monday July 21 when two men drove up and shot him from behind. The victim survived the attack and was rushed to hospital. The two perpetrators fled the scene.

The drive-by is the latest strike in a seven-year-long feud between Calgary gang Fresh Off the Boat and a breakaway faction. On July 5 high-ranking FOB member Roger Chin was gunned down in his car on Centre Street N. The man shot this week was an associate of Chin whose funeral took place just two days before the shooting.

Twelve gang members have been killed in the fighting so far and police fear that it’s only a matter of time before an innocent citizen is caught in the cross-fire. “It’s happened in other jurisdictions it can happen here” Chief Rick Hason stated in a press conference. “I would absolutely expect more shootings.” (AM)
