Rob Anders closer to facing challenge

Thirty new directors elected at Calgary West Tory AGM

Backbench Calgary MP Rob Anders is one step closer to facing a nomination challenge after the Conservative board of directors in his riding was replaced by 30 new directors.

Hundreds of people attended the party’s annual general meeting in the riding late last month including many supporters of Donna Kennedy-Glans the corporate lawyer who hopes to challenge Anders to a nomination contest. “The image of Rob Anders as being invincible somehow is now questioned by everyone” she says. “We’re very excited. It was an awful lot of work to build that membership base.” She expects the new board to be more transparent and independent than the last one.

Kennedy-Glans’s next challenge will be getting at least two-thirds of Conservative members in Calgary West to support a nomination contest. (The Conservative party recently decided to poll members in each riding on whether they want a contest.) “It’s a very very daunting threshold” she says of the two-thirds requirement.
