Maximum RnR – Take On The Spades

Relapse Records

Hot summer days require equally hot rock ’n’ roll and Maximum RnR provides asphalt-melting guitars on their two recent Ian Blurton-produced 7-inch singles. Each split-single has a pair of tracks from the band and two from one of their contemporaries. "The Turmoil" and "The Wheel" appear opposite the sludgy monster-rock stylings of Electric Frankenstein. With its blistering vocals and screaming guitars Maximum RnR is reminiscent of the bygone days of high-top sneakers Thrasher magazine and hang-outs in the parking lot of a local community centre-cum hardcore thrash concert. "Deep in the Tracks" and "Ire of the Ram" come with two tracks by The Spades. The Maximum RnR-Spades pairing seems ideal as The Spades hearken back to an era when rock bands used to come into the club kick over a table break a mic stand and make out with the serving staff before even hitting a note. Somebody put these guys on tour opening for The Bronx and they’ll level the place.

Maximum RnR will perform at the Hifi Club this Saturday August 8.
