Japanese downtempo label Introducing! has taken a shine to Calgary duo Herajika Tracks. Earlier this spring the pair debuted "I Believe" with the label; now it follows with two more songs "Memory Lane" and "Dreaming" on the Beats + Pieces compilation. Herajika Tracks’ merging of deft piano work with electronic rhythms makes it a suitable companion to artists like Dryad and DJ Whitesmith . Violins adorn Mabatiki’s two contributions while Disco 2’s "Major 7th" features a vintage R&B vibe as Introducing! tries to avoid the typical acid jazz foundation of downtempo with more classical instrumentation. Beats + Pieces provides a welcome change of pace for a rapidly maturing musical genre. On the other hand it looks like Herajika Tracks is only getting warmed up as there are plans for a full-length album due late this summer.
