Who: Blist
What: If it’s possible for a two-piece to be a supergroup Calgary hip hop outfit Blist is a supergroup. Featuring Sabo Forte (a.k.a. Robey Stothart of Even Your Odd and Hookline) and Andor Sparo (the inimitable Andy Sparacino of Helvis Thunder=Lava and The A-Team) the group crafts pop-culture-heavy rhymes in the grand tradition of the Beastie Boys and other guaranteed party-starters.
When: Dickens Pub on Thursday June 24 and the Plaza Theatre as part of Sled Island Film on Monday June 28
What brought Blist together?
Sabo: We both worked the bar at the Castle Pub and after watching Andy
rapping over rock music in his A-Team band I asked if he’d wanna try
writing together for a Beastie Boys-style of party rockin’ hip hop. Our
first three Blist shows were at three different Castle Pub closing parties. The
punks just couldn’t let that place go.
How would you describe your sound?
Both: Blism
Why does Calgary need you?
Sabo: Ignorant Bliss (sabo)
Andor: Calgary is gonna get a lot of blism whether it needs it or not.
Where will you be in five years?
Sabo: In a fetal position lying on top of a huge pile of $100 bills quietly
sobbing ourselves to sleep.
Who would you most like to take on in an Indian leg-wrestling match?
Andor: Zak Pashak
Sabo: Queen Elizabeth II. I’d battle for the crown.
