Talk nerdy to me

No other previously hurtful term has been as successfully “taken back” as the word “geek.” Shy bookish intellectuals who once endured having the word thrown at them by bullying jocks are now self-applying the geek label with pride. And why not? Intelligence creativity imagination and an interest in science fiction is nothing to be ashamed of and it never was. Plus by being open about their proclivities card-carrying geeks find it easier to find like-minded friends and even romantic partners. Yes there are female geeks. And they’re amazing.

With the expansion of geek culture comes Geek Temptresses; beautiful women who are lusted after by the geek community due to their perceived aura of nerdiness. It isn’t enough to simply play a geek icon on TV; a proper Geek Temptress needs to own a scimitar or wear Spock ears in public. Here then is an incomplete list of gorgeous females who make male geeks reach for their asthma inhalers:

Felicia Day . By turning her World of Warcraft addiction into a brilliant web series called The Guild Day has become the focus of more nerd puppy-love than almost any other public figure. You can (nay will) watch all five seasons of The Guild on watchtheguild.com and even if you’re a non-gamer who has to decipher all of the nerd-speak from contextual clues (an easy task thanks to Day’s fine writing) you’ll be under Felicia’s spell almost immediately. The pale waif-ish redhead earned even more fans as the love interest in Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog (2008).

Alice Fraasa . The Snorg Tees Girl became an Internet celebrity by looking sexy in geeky T-shirts in a series of Snorg Tees ads appearing on every website you’ve ever visited. Snorg sells funny T-shirts bearing slogans like “If you’re not part of the solution you’re part of the precipitate” “It’s OK Pluto. I’m not a planet either” and “Wanted: Dead & Alive: Schrodinger’s Cat.” Fraasa’s girl-next-door beauty helped to launch the business and to set nerds’ hearts aflutter. Fraasa has since moved on to other things leaving the Snorg ads to other models.

Summer Glau . All of the actresses from Firefly have inspired their share of nerdgasms but Glau gets bonus points for:

1. Going into a psychic berserker rage and massacring all those Reavers in Serenity (2005);

2. Going on to play a freaking Terminator in the TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles ; and

3. Being a cheerful approachable and luminous figure at countless sci-fi conventions.

Olivia Wilde . She played a sexy computer program in Tron: Legacy in 2010 and a sexy alien in Cowboys & Aliens the following year. The films might not be anything special but Wilde is.

Mayim Bialik . The former Blossom star now has an actual real-life PhD in neuroscience bitches! Plus she’s in Big Bang Theory . Respect!

Olivia Munn . Exquisite former Attack of the Show! host Munn definitely belongs on this list. Partly because a horde of nerds will burn my house down if I leave her off it.

Liana K . A stunningly gorgeous redhead who’s smart funny and loves comic books? Gentlemen behold — the perfect woman. She started her career by producing and writing the show Ed’s Night Party with Ed the Sock (voiced by Liana’s husband Steven Kerzner) and quickly became an audience favourite when she began co-hosting the show with Ed. For years it seemed like the grouchy sock puppet was too outspoken and iconoclastic to function with a co-host but “Ed & Red” turned out to be a terrific team. E d’s Night Party is filled with scantily clad women go-go dancing or lounging in a hot tub but I can’t physically see any of them because that would mean taking my eyes off of Liana.

Red’s intelligent views on social issues along with her fondness for video games comics homemade costumes and other bits of geekery make her irresistible to the nerd populace. She can often be seen at science fiction conventions dressed as sexy characters like Poison Ivy Slave Leia Power Girl Sheena Red Sonja or Cheetara from ThunderCats. Yowza!
