Dancers’ Studio West moves out

After more than 20 years in its "black box" theatre space in Sunalta Dancers’ Studio West is moving out.

The company wrapped up AIR the annual artist-in-residence showcase and its final show of the season earlier in November and will move out of the space early in 2014. A media release issued by the company states that it will continue to operate remotely and it will present programming in the 2014-15 season.

"The reality is that many organizations are desperate for rehearsal and performance space but when it comes down to it simply don’t have the finances to commit to using the space in an ongoing way" says DSW board present Robin Tufts in the release.

Instead of focusing its energy on maintaining the facility DSW plans to rent rehearsal and performance space next season.

"The priority is always on artistic development for Albertan artists and the new model will enable us to do that even better" says artistic director Davida Monk in the release. "Unencumbered by facility management I’m looking forward to the artistic possibilities and room for growth in the coming years."
