In a fit of compassion the Alberta government has extended the deadline to apply for provincial flood-recovery programs for small- and medium-sized businesses. The original deadline was December 31 2013. It will be extended to June 30 2014.

“We have heard concerns that small- and medium-sized businesses need more time to assess their needs following this disaster. The extended deadline will give these organizations the time to properly determine and apply for the support they need to help their businesses recover” Finance Minister Doug Horner said in a press release. It is estimated the floods directly affected about 1500 small businesses in the province. Recovery funding can come from the Alberta Flood Recovery Loan Guarantee the Alberta Flood Recovery Interest Rebate and the Agriculture Financial Services Corporation’s Alberta Flood Recovery Loan programs. Business owners are encouraged to check online or with their banks to learn about eligibility requirements.
