Stride celebrates new space in former building with new show

Stride Gallery has finally returned to the Bell Block on Macleod Trail S.E. following the June flood but in a new exhibition space that will allow for expanded programming.

“We had the opportunity with what happened to the building in the flood to take over a dual unit so we have essentially managed to double our space” says director Larissa Tiggelers adding that the side-by-side street level units are just south of the previous unit and still have high ceilings and lots of character.

After having to cancel shows due to the flood and pare back programming at the temporary space offered by Truck Gallery Tiggelers says it’s nice to be back doing what Stride was doing before — and possibly even more. “We have a lot more flexibility with this new space.”

Tiggelers says the gallery is looking into the possibility of collaborating with local festivals or offering screenings in the basements.

Stride will celebrate its homecoming with the opening of a new exhibition Tolerance Time by Michael Jones (pictured) on Friday February 21 starting at 8 p.m. in the new space (1006 Macleod Trail S.E.).
