Calgary Underground Film Festival unveils 2014 lineup

The Calgary Underground Film Festival (CUFF) has revealed the full list of programming for its 2014 edition. As always the festival’s schedule is packed with anticipated releases and undiscovered gems along with plenty of afterparties and other fun treats.

The fest kicks off on April 7 with an opening gala that features a screening of the Irish musical comedy film Frank . Other big-name draws of the festival include The Raid 2 (the anticipated sequel to the Indonesian martial arts thriller The Raid: Redemption ) Michel Gondry’s new film Mood Indigo and Bruce McDonald’s The Husband .

The other feature films playing at CUFF are Vi Är Bäst! We Gotta Get Out of This Place R100 Three Night Stand Blue Ruin Doomsdays Love Eternal Alive Inside: A Story of Music and Memory Wetlands Lamb of God documentary As the Palaces Burn Why Don’t You Play in Hell Swim Little Fish Swim Vannin’ Jodorowsky’s Dune Asphalt Watches Science Team The Machine The Sacrament Late Phases For No Good Reason and The Strange Colour of Your Body’s Tears .

Regular festival favourites The Found Footage Festival the 48-Hour Movie Making Challenge and the Saturday Morning Cartoon Party will all return. As always there will be a fascinating cross-section of short films spread throughout with a special shorts package titled People Are Strange screening on April 12.

In addition to being the subject of the film Jodorowsky’s Dune filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky will be celebrated with a double bill. His classic films El Topo and The Holy Mountain will screen on April 12.
