Calgary soundstage confirms location

The Calgary Film Centre finally has a home. After receiving enough government funding in February to make the $23-million movie studio a reality Calgary Economic Development spent the next four months reviewing potential locations to build the 4645-square-metre (50000-square-foot) space.

The Calgary Film Centre will be located on 8.53 acres of land just off Glenmore Trail at 5750 76 Avenue S.E. not far from the Big Rock Brewery. The site is clear across town from the original 2010 proposal for a $36-million production centre called the Alberta Creative Hub at Canada Olympic Park. That plan was rejected and Calgary Economic Development was assigned with developing a scaled-down proposal. Once completed the Calgary Film Centre will be the second permanent film soundstage in Alberta.
