Story slam and open mic poetry events

Storytellers and poets are being encouraged to speak out tonight at two different events.

At the Calgary Story Slam anyone with a "wild" tale to tell is invited to stand up and present their five-minute (mostly) true story. And yes the stories will be judged and no cheat sheets are allowed. That should make for an entertaining evening at the Rose and Crown on Thursday July 19 starting at 7 p.m.

Just down the street the Single Onion reading series is inviting poets to sign up for an open-mic extravaganza taking place Thursday June 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Shelf Life Books. Anyone who is interested should show up a bit early to add their name to the list then when their name is called they will have five minutes to present one poem to the audience.

Of course both events could use some listeners so those who prefer to keep their mouths shut are also welcome to attend.
