A report from Partners for Climate Protection measuring the environmental sustainability efforts of Canadian communities holds Calgary up as an example of doing it right.

The city has reduced municipal greenhouse gas emissions by 46 per cent since 2007 thanks in part to its policy of using green electricity to power all corporate operations and the LRT or purchasing green offsets where renewable energy is not available.

The report says Calgary stands with Edmonton and Vancouver as one of the greenest cities in Canada. Edmonton has also cut GHG emissions by 50 per cent since 2008 and has operated the country’s largest residential waste composting program since 2000. Calgary has been a member of Partners for Climate Protection since 1994.
