Theatre Calgary announces lineup for its 50th season

Theatre Calgary’s 2017-18 season is gearing up to be one of their best yet for many reasons — as it happens, they are celebrating their 50th season with a lineup worthy of such celebration.

Here’s a look at what is in store for Calgary audiences beginning in September:

The world premiere of Sharon Pollock’s Blow Wind High Water starts off the anniversary season, followed by Sisters: The Belles Soeurs Musical based on the play Les Belles-Soeurs by Michel Tremblay.

Continuing with Theatre Calgary’s Christmas tradition, A Christmas Carol returns with Stephen Hair as Ebenezer Scrooge for the 24th year.

The New Year will begin with William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night — Old Trout Puppet Workshop style.

The Tony Award-winning comedy-drama The Humans by Stephan Karam comes to TC’s stage in March, with the regular season ending with the musical The Secret Garden.

Aside from the mainstage shows, Theatre Calgary will also be presenting Calgary Forte Musical Theatre’s Touch Me: Songs For a (Dis)Connected Age as part of their Up Close initiative. Partnering with One Yellow Rabbit Performance Theatre, TC will present the Arts Club Theatre Company production of Onegin.

Shakespeare by the Bow returns next summer with a production of As You Like it, as does Shakespeare After Dark with Victors, Villains and Vixens in July. Both productions will take place at Prince’s Island Park.
