Top 5 (maybe) picks for the weekend

I had 15 picks for you when I went through my listings initially, which should tell you that this weekend you are spoiled for choice and have no reason to stay in the house! Unless you are ill. Then you are allowed to convalesce.

Transistor – Cabaret Contemporain will perform nightly at 7 p.m. until Saturday at Theatre Junction Grand. I had a chance to check them out Wednesday night and it was amazing. Go! Treat yourself to some French incredibleness.

Soliciting Temptation, Sage Theatre’s latest production, opens Thursday night and runs until March 4 at the Pumphouse Theatres. Check out my interview with Artistic Director Jason Mehmel. He’s awesome!

• Friday night local faves Napalmpom hold their LP release with guests Melted Mirror and Borscht at the Palomino. Get down there for all of the fun. All. Of. It.

• Saturday is insane. I’m going to cheat and give you more than 5 picks (again) but seriously: Beltline Bonspiel and Lougheed Open House, Cash Jam featuring Mike Fury 4, Curtis Glas and more at the Ship & Anchor 2-6 p.m., The Wild with Bad Animal and guests at Dickens Pub, Whitney Rose at the Commonwealth, and a special shout out to the Sad Bastards and Lonely Hearts Ball, celebrating Elephant Artist Relief’s 10th Anniversary with so much entertainment lined up you will forget you’re a Sad Bastard and have a ton o’ fun. Head to the Legion downtown for this one!

Check out the full calendar of what’s happening in town at The Culture Cycle. If you have an event you’d like to see in the listings, please email it to me at kari@theyyscene.ca. Cheers!
