Top 5 picks for getting out April 6 – 13

This weekend is a big weekend for theatre in Calgary, with many shows wrapping up their run between now and Saturday – here’s a brief (ha ha) rundown of what you should rush to see: Our Man in Havana at Vertigo Theatre (I’ve seen it, it’s great), Girl Crush at Lunchbox Theatre, Sextet by Verb Theatre, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying presented by Front Row Centre Theatre, The Shape of Things presented by Birnton Theatricals at Motel Theatre (I’ve seen it, it’s great), Taking Flight Festival of Student Work at the Reeve Theatre, U of C, The Three Musketeers (didn’t see it, kicking myself for it)… plus ATP is opening their new show, 1979 on Friday (will be seeing it, looking forward to it). 

• Thursday night head over to The Gateway to see the Electric Six and have Dick Valentine charm the socks off of you. 

• Friday – Sunday, Make It! The Handmade Revolution is a local craft/art fair being held at the Big Four Building. Support local artisans!

• Friday – Saturday Jack Broadbent performs at the Engineered Theatre.

• Friday night The Wellington Folk hold their EP Release with The Fig & The Flame at Ironwood.

• Saturday is a night for fundraisers: ATP’s Celebrity Hors D’oeuvres, The Mullet – A Fundraiser taking place at Loft 112 and Handsome Alice’s Night of a Thousand Divas taking place at the Pumphouse Theatre. 

• Monday night head down to the Jack Singer Concert Hall for National Geographic Live: The Mystery of Our Human Story with Lee Berger. See you there?
