Top 5 picks for getting out April 13 – 19

More great concerts just announced this week, including Simple Plan with Courage My Love & Selfish Things on Sept. 8 at The Palace, and The New Pornographers with guests on Oct. 2 at MacEwan Hall. Tickets for both shows on sale RIGHT NOW!

Now for this week’s best bets:

• Thursday sees Dickens hosting the Striker CD Launch with Ravenous, Riot City & In/VertigoCorinthian and guests will perform at The King Eddy, Transit releases his new album at The Gateway, and, of course, Brian Wilson will perform Pet Sounds at the Jubilee.

• Friday head over to Braeside Community Association to check out The Beagle Boys with Shari Ulrich, The Heebee Jeebes and James Keelaghan, presented by the Chinook Musical Society.

• Saturday it’s good times at MacEwan Ballroom with Mayday Parade – A Lesson in Romantics 10th Anniversary Tour with Knuckle Puck & Milestones. If you’re into more into dancing to alt-’80s and ’90s music, head to Dickens for the 7th Anniversary of Hang the DJ.

• Monday! Calgary Underground Film Festival begins and runs until April 23! Check out their schedule and figure out how you’re going to spend your week — you’re going to need some planning so check back to theYYSCENE as we’ll have reviews and previews throughout the week.

• Tuesday Wordfest presents author Karen Connelly at Memorial Park Library. Tickets are almost sold out, get yours asap!
