Calgary folk fest set to reveal lineup through Folkemon Go event

Interactive scavenger hunt on Saturday will allow participants to discover artists playing at this year’s event and have fun doing so.

Remember the debate about Pokemon Go?

It pretty much boiled down to: What’s the point?

There wasn’t one, really, it was just a treasure hunt for fun. Not that hard to understand.

Well, the same can be said about Folkemon Go, except with the added bonus of getting the skinny on who will be playing this year’s Calgary Folk Music Festival before the lineup’s officially announced.

The event, which takes place this Saturday afternoon, was designed as an interactive and unique reveal of the acts appearing at this summer’s annual sonic celebration, taking place July 27-30 on Prince’s Island Park.

How it works is you and your friends can go to the fest’s website and register a team of two to four people. You’ll then meet Saturday at 2 p.m. at Festival Hall where you’ll be given a Folkemon Go package filled with clues that will lead you on a treasure hunt that will take you between Inglewood and Prince’s Island and reveal the names of the artists playing.

You have until 5 p.m. to get ’em all, and then after that there’s an official, family-friendly launch event with prizes for the winners — including festival passes — and other goodies at a secret location featuring a surprise folk fest performer.

Fun. And informative.

That’s the point.

And if you can’t make it out on Saturday, head back to theYYSCENE at 5 p.m. as we’ll have the complete lineup for you to discover.
