Diana Krall, Japandroids, Echo and the Bunnymen among new Calgary concert announcements

A very busy Monday also includes announcements of Lewis Black and Rise Against local dates.

April showers bring May flowers.

May showers? A whole lotta concert announcements apparently.

After a drizzly Sunday, Monday morning saw an impressive number of big-time show announcements for Calgary, with everything from indie rock to soft jazz to ’80s acts to comedy heading our way soon.

First out of the gate is the one furthest down the road, and that’s Canadian pop-jazz performer Diana Krall, who will be heading to town for a Dec. 5 show at the Jack Singer Concert Hall in Arts Commons. Tickets for that event are $75, $99 and $149 (plus service charges) and go on sale — you’ll notice a theme soon — this Friday from livenation.com, by phone from 403-294-9494 or at the Arts Commons Box Office.

Krall will be touring to support her forthcoming album Turn Up the Quiet.

Next up is Canadian alt rockers Japandroids, who will hit town for an Oct. 13 show at McEwan Ballroom on the U of C campus. Tickets to see the Vancouver duo, who are touring their latest acclaimed release Near to the Wild of Life, are on sale, yes, Friday. They’ll run you $27.50-$30 and you can get them from Ticketfly.

How ’bout some ha-ha?

On Sept. 6, comics Lewis Black and Kathleen Madigan will be bringing their The 49th Parallel Tour to the Jack Singer. If you want to see the pair of merry-makers, that will run you $39.50, $52.50 or $69.50 (plus service charges) and will also be on sale beginning — say it with me … — Friday from from livenation.com, by phone from 403-294-9494, or at the Arts Commons Box Office.

More? Of course.

How ’bout some rock from Rise Against? The Chicago melodic metal act will hit the Grey Eagle Event Centre Sept. 16 with Pierce the Veil and White Lung. Tickets for that show are $61.75 (plus service charges) and go on sale the last day of the work week, you know the one, from  livenation.com or by phoning 1-855-985-5000.

Best for last? Maybe. But the good news is it’s also the one you won’t have to wait too long for. On Aug. 6, ’80s faves Echo and the Bunnymen will finally find their way to our town, making a stop at the MacEwan Ballroom. Tickets for that must-see are $49.50 (plus those servicing charges) and go on sale F-R-I-D-A-Y from livenation.com or by telecommunications device from 1-877-732-1682.
