Bites: Baby Got Basque, Pig and Pinot, more on the menu for local food lovers

Foodies can pencil in for the coming weeks an introduction to the rebranded Ox Bar de Tapas, a fundraiser for Meals on Wheels and an all-day happy hour at Goro + Gun.

Food lovers, pull out your calendars right now. The next couple of weeks are going to be tasty.

When we flip the page to June – and how on earth is that already happening this year? – there will be lots to mark down, starting with a night of tapas and drinks at the newly rebranded Ox Bar de Tapas.

The spot once known as Ox and Angela is back with a new menu (get the Patates Bravas and thank me later) and a renovated room that saw that centre wall knocked down for a brighter, more open space. Executive Chef Kai Salimaki kept a few dishes but otherwise has put his own spin on the menu, which focuses on traditional Spanish tapas. The restaurant has put a focus on a gin-tonic program and has an extensive sherry list.

On June 6th, Ox will host Baby Got Basque, an evening of unlimited tapas and drinks at the restaurant. Tickets are $75 for the event. Get more information and buy tickets here.

The newly rebranded Ox Bar de Tapas will host an evening of food from their new menu and drinks in their renovated room next month.

Later in June, the parade of the golden Divine Swine will happen at Hotel Arts as the annual Pig and Pinot Festival returns for another night of pork, wine and fundraising fun.

Restaurants from across the city, including The Guild, Bow Valley Ranche, Double Zero and Infuse Catering and Events, will all be whipping up their best pork dishes and pairing them with pinot wines from around the globe, poured by a number of Calgary’s best wine shops.

Along with food and wine, there will be a silent auction and a raffle to win $2,000 worth of fine wines.

Funds raised from this event – now in its seventh year – go to Calgary Meals on Wheels.

Pig and Pinot is on June 15th and the festivities run from 7 to 10 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite here.

For those who don’t want to make plans but love a good deal, Goro + Gun has launched an all-day happy hour.

Starting May 27, the sushi and ramen spot in The Core downtown, will feature an all-day happy hour menu every Saturday with menu items starting at $3-a-pop from noon to 9 p.m.

The restaurant will be unveiling new menu items to boot.
