Top picks for getting out May 25 – 31

We run down your best entertainment bets in Calgary for the upcoming week.

With the weather being (mostly) amazing these days, it’s easy to pry yourself from your couch and get out and see some of what Calgary culture has to offer. And here, my friends, are some suggestions for this upcoming weekend!

• Thursday: The Glenbow will be screening The Journals of Knud Rasmussen at 7 p.m. Afterwards, walk a block to The Palomino to check out Micah Erenberg and Rotary Park with Mariel Buckley. Or you could head to Morgan’s where Philly nerdcore rapper Mega Ran will be putting on a show for all the hip-hop heads in the know, and those who follow beefs with Alex Trebek. (Check out the diss track here.)

• Friday: Studio Bell once again hosts After Hours with DJs, including Pete Emes of Smalltown DJs, and special events. Afterwards, head over to the Commonwealth to take in Australian music legend Paul Kelly with Charlie Owen. If you’re leaning towards a more ambient evening, Hermitess Album Release with guests Kenna Burima and Dark Time will take place at the Sunalta Community Centre.

• Saturday you should get over to Bridgeland for the #BeCubed Mural Reveal near Luke’s Drug Mart from 5-5:45 p.m. The event will include storytelling on the making of the mural and opportunities to meet the artist team. Afterwards, maybe you zip over to the Pumphouse Theatres to take in Scorpio Theatre’s latest production, The Laws of Thermodynamics. Why not?

• Finish your weekend with The Head and The Heart over at MacEwan Hall on Sunday evening. There. Sorted.

There is so much more going on in this city than you can imagine. Check out all of the listings to plan your week ahead!
