July Talk, Whitehorse and The Sadies among first acts announced for Calgary Stampede Coca-Cola Stage

More musical acts to be announced this week for “expanded festival-like lineup” performing on the midway.

The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth will get a little louder.

On Monday, the Calgary Stampede began unveiling some of the acts who will be performing on the Coca-Cola Stage this year — artists who will be part of what they’re calling an “expanded festival-style lineup” featuring international, national and local performers.

The first headliners announced are Juno-winning duo Whitehorse and fellow Canuck act July Talk, who will perform July 15 and 16 respectively.

Acts opening for Whitehorse will be blues-rockers The Harpoonist and the Axe Murder as well as psych cowboys The Sadies, and the honours for setting the table for July Talk is trippy tunesmith Faith Healer (a.k.a. Edmonton’s Jessica Jalbert).

Taking the stage during the afternoons on the midway are Derek Pitts and Joe Nolan (July 15), and local boys The HighKicks and Okotokian Michela Sheedy.

Tickets for all performance are free of charge with paid entrance into Stampede Park.

More acts are set to be rolled out later this week, with the promise that the Coca-Cola Stage will be rocking hard from July 7 to 16.

“We have the biggest lineup of artists we’ve ever had performing on the Coca-Cola Stage this year, bringing a new festival-style atmosphere to the Calgary Stampede,” says Samara Lastiwka, production manager at the Calgary Stampede. “Audiences will get to experience something new every day.”

Check back with theYYSCENE, as we’ll announce the acts as they’re made available.
