Midnight Oil cancels Western Canadian dates including Calgary show

Sad news for local Midnight Oil fans — the veteran Australian band has cancelled its Western Canadian tour, including the Sept. 2 show scheduled for Calgary’s BMO Centre.

In a press release issued by promoters Live Nation, the reason given by management was because of “unforeseen family circumstances.”

Tickets purchased online and by phone will get refunded automatically, while those that bought in person from outlets will be refunded at the point of purchase.

The date was part of their The Great Circle Tour and featured opener Matthew Good. Other concerts cancelled are an Aug. 31 show at Winnipeg’s MTS Centre and their Sept. 3 Shaw Convention Centre stop in Edmonton.

Here’s the complete statement from management:

“The Midnight Oil / Matthew Good dates scheduled for Winnipeg, Calgary, and Edmonton have been cancelled due to unforeseen family circumstances. Refunds for the threecancelled shows will be automatically processed for tickets purchased online and by phone. Refunds are also available from point-of-purchase if bought in-person. The Montreal and Toronto performances by both artists as well as Midnight Oil’s U.S. dates in Aug/Sep will not be affected and will definitely go ahead as planned. Both Midnight Oil and Matthew Good apologize sincerely to everyone who’s been inconvenienced by this unfortunate situation.”
