Top picks for getting out Aug. 17-23 including ReggaeFest, Lucky Sonne and Amelie Patterson

People, we’re mid-way through August already. I have no idea how that happened, but you can be sure I’m not happy about it. Luckily for all of us, there is plenty to do in town to keep our minds off of the onset of autumn which should happen in, oh, seven minutes.

Concerts just announced: RALPH at The Palomino Sept. 20; Death From Above with Beaches at the Grey Eagle Event Centre Nov. 24; Brit Floyd – Pink Floyd Tribute Band Nov. 29 at Jack Singer Concert Hall. Most shows go on sale Friday morning, check link for details!

Thursday: Calgary ReggaeFest kicks off at Shaw Millennium Park and runs until the 19th. Check out their schedule and go see some amazing acts this weekend! Wander across the bridge to Kensington to the Oak Tree Tavern and catch Lucky Sonne at some point. Why not?

Friday: Just Jazz featuring The Joel Untinen Trio at Lolita’s Lounge, or maybe you’re more into seeing ZAUM with Chieftain, Flying Fortress and Electric Owl over at Distortion. Your choice! And should you be more mainstream country inclined, you’ll definitely want to head to Prairie Winds Park in the city’s northeast, where Country Thunder is taking place all weekend, with headliners that include Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton and Thomas Rhett.

Saturday: AUDIOFREQ at The Palace is a good bet if you’re into the electronica, and just a few blocks away at Nite Owl Little Lamb will be holding their Album Release with Slim Hawley and The Varmoors. Should be good either way!

Sunday: Take advantage of outdoor summer activities and get over to the East Village for NMC’s Sundays in C-Square – this week featuring the Hi-Strung Downers. Wander down 9th Ave afterwards and check out Amelie Patterson over at the Ironwood.

Monday: Monday Blues with John Rutherford & the Big Blues Trio on Stephen Avenue Walk Summer Stage at noon is a good way to start the week. Monday night get some laughs over at Broken City with Comedy Monday Night‘s showcase featuring Chris Griffin and Steve McGowan.

There is so much more going on in this city than you can imagine. Check out all of the listings to plan your week ahead!
