Top picks for getting out Aug. 31- Sept. 6 include Calgary Pride events, Alley Party, Against Me! and much more

How. How did we get to September already? Although it still feels like July, so I’ll take that, thank you very much. And what a great weekend to get out and enjoy your city! For events both inside and out, here’s a rundown of my top picks:

Calgary Pride: wrapping up on Sunday, this week-long celebration of Calgary Pride is still going strong, from dance parties, patio parties, and, of course, the most fantastic event of the week, Pride Parade (taking place Sunday along 6th Ave & 6th Street at noon)/ Pride in the Park at Prince’s Island Park from noon – 6 p.m. Check out calgarypride.ca for the full schedule!

Thursday: Theatre Junction and the Hifi Club come together once again for their annual Alley Party (the ninth, to be exact!) celebrating Theatre Junction’s upcoming season and including music by a mix of Calgary’s finest DJs and Hifi residents. It all takes place at Theatre Junction Grand from 5-11 p.m. Perhaps you go to the party early and head out later to MacEwan Hall to check out Spoon with guests White Reaper? Great idea! (I’ll be doing the same!)

• Friday: More music than you can fathom, starting with the A-Bomb EP Release with Electric Revival and Dane at the Palomino. if you find yourself on the other side of downtown, hit Dickens for The Ashley Hundred Album Release with Archaics and Fox Who Slept the Day Away. And, for those beer-lovers amongst us Wild Rose Brewery is throwing a party at their Taproom in Currie Barracks to celebrate theirs and Alberta’s birthday. Beer, bands — The Frontiers, Dragon Fli Empire and Rondel Roberts Band — and the launch of our new Scene in the Wild Podcask. Don’t miss it!

• Saturday: Family fun awaits at our city’s parks! The Greenway 150 Family Shindig takes place at four parks across the city and runs from noon to 3 p.m. Check out the fun in Shouldice, Cityscape, South Glenmore and Mahogany Parks. Ditch the kids and head to Vern’s downtown Saturday night for Protosequence with Angelmaker, Torrefy, Train Bigger Monkeys and ChaosBeing. Seriously, kids can’t come.

• Sunday: Woodhawk, Blackthunder, Night Committee and more will entertain you at Rock ‘n Roll Pinball from 2 p.m. until late at Atlantic Trap & Gill!

• WednesdayAgainst Me! with Bleached and The Dirty Nil perform at the Marquee Beer Market & Stage. And that, my friends, is your week done.

There is so much more going on in this city than you can imagine. Check out all of the listings to plan your week ahead!
