Welcome to Episode 5 of the Scene In the Wild Podcask. Joining me is Raphaelle Standell, the frontwoman for Juno-winning, Montreal-based trio Braids.
Back in Calgary for a hometown show at Studio Bell, Standell stopped by the Wild Rose Brewery Taproom to chat about a number of different subjects.
Some of the topics we discussed during the fascinating interview included: what it’s like to return to the city where she and the band started; how their move to Quebec affected their sound and the community they found; new music the group is working on in their own studio; her brave essay for Pitchfork that recounted her sexual abuse at the hands of her stepfather and how that influenced their Juno-winning album Deep In the Iris; and her side-project Blue Hawaii, which has just released a new album Tenderness.
