Scene In the Wild Podcask: Episode No. 5, Braids frontwoman Raphaelle Standell

Welcome to Episode 5 of the Scene In the Wild Podcask. Joining me is Raphaelle Standell, the frontwoman for Juno-winning, Montreal-based trio Braids.

Back in Calgary for a hometown show at Studio Bell, Standell stopped by the Wild Rose Brewery Taproom to chat about a number of different subjects.

Some of the topics we discussed during the fascinating interview included: what it’s like to return to the city where she and the band started; how their move to Quebec affected their sound and the community they found; new music the group is working on in their own studio; her brave essay for Pitchfork that recounted her sexual abuse at the hands of her stepfather and how that influenced their Juno-winning album Deep In the Iris; and her side-project Blue Hawaii, which has just released a new album Tenderness.

Standell was open, candid and engaging, and I hope that comes across on the podcask.

I want to thank her for that and for her time, as well as the time and talents of Lorrie Matheson who produces Scene In the Wild, and the folks at Wild Rose who sponsor it and host us for our conversations.

Please feel free to download and share, or head to the iTunes store to subscribe to Scene In the Wild for past and future episodes.

Cheers.
