ArtsTop Picks

Top picks for getting out Nov. 2-8 including Michael Bernard Fitzgerald, Gad Elmaleh, The Pack A.D., Alex Cuba and more

Oh look, winter. You know, this is usually the time that we start hibernating until we are somewhat adjusted to the snow and cold, but I think that we should just start winter off with a bang and show it we’re not a-scared. Out we go! Netflix be damned!

Thursday: Just For Laughs presents Comedian Gad Elmaleh at MacEwan Hall — this guy opens for Jerry Seinfeld. He’s good!  But if you’re more into sitting and listening to awesome music, head down to Festival Hall for Birds of Chicago with guest Mohsin Zaman.

Friday: There is so much happening Friday it makes all of the other days look sad. Make It! The Handmade Revolution takes place until Nov. 5 at Big Four Building. Crafters! Makers! Get your Christmas shopping started early! After the craftstravaganza (just made that up!) you have no end of options for your evening:  The Pack A.D. will perform at Commonwealth, Cariboo Express with Barney Bentall will be at Bella Concert Hall, hometown fave Michael Bernard Fitzgerald (with orchestra!) presented by Calgary Phil will delight audiences at the Jack Singer Concert Hall, and if you feel like some dancin’, there is the 80’s & 90’s Dance Night with DJ Ben Liebrand at Junction.

Saturday: The Elwins & Fast Romantics at the Gateway, and for your further pop/rock needs, In This Moment Hollywood Undead with Of Mice and Men and Avatar will be at MacEwan Hall. It’s an all-ages show, so an early start!

Sunday: You think Sundays are boring, but wait! Alex Cuba performs at The Gateway. Go. See him.

Monday: Odesza — 2017 A Moment Apart Tour with Sofi Tukker and Kasbo happens at BMO Centre. I think this is EDM. Fun for the EDM crowd!

Wednesday: Some rock with Mauno at Nite Owl. And, of course, there is a ton of art happening at all times in this city, for example, head down to the Esker Foundation in Inglewood to see Mary Anne Barkhouse: Le rêve aux loups until Dec 22. I’ve seen it, and it’s beautiful. Culture. We’re all about culture.

There is so much more going on in this city than you can imagine. Check out all of the listings to plan your week ahead!
