Top picks for getting out Nov. 9-15 including Martha Wainwright, TJ Miller and GWAR

Hey! It was a big week for show announcements, so I’m just going to dive right in and tell you what’s coming up. Queens of the Stone Age will be at the Saddledome on May 17 (yes! Josh Homme’s birthday! Am I the only QOTSA nerd who knew that, other than my pal Aubrey? *awkward silence*), The Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo has announced that Michael J. Fox will be in attendance at next year’s event, Rod Stewart was announced for April 8 at the Saddledome, The Jim Cuddy Band Constellation Tour will be at the Jubilee March 1, and Lights at MacEwan Hall on March 27. Check the links for ticket info!

On to the week ahead:

Thursday: The Canadian Jazz Festival takes place Nov. 9 until the 12th at various venues around downtown — check out the likes of David Braid, Steve Amirault, MJ DeWaal Quintet and more! If you’re more rock, less jazz, hit The Gateway for Danko Jones. Remember Danko Jones at The Night Gallery? Anyone? (My pal Aubrey does.)

Friday: Take in a contemporary dance theatre double bill with Project InTandem at the Pumphouse Theatres, or head over to the Memorial Park Library to hear Nate Blakeslee discussing The Wolf. The Women in Improv Fundraiser, Yes, And… We Believe You will take place at the Rose Room, Alexandra Centre as well.

Saturday: Yes, it’s that time of year again… GWAR. Gwar will be at The Palace, and I tell everyone who’s never been — take a poncho. Lotsa stuff flying all over the place. Less messy, but hopefully equally as entertaining will be Dirty Catfish Brass Band with Fermented Beet Orchestra at the Palomino. Why am I hungry now?

Sunday: Just for Laughs presents The Alternative Comedy Tour starring TJ Miller with guest Rhys Darby. MURRAY! This bundle of awesome takes place at the Jack Singer Concert Hall.

Tuesday: The Marda Loop Justice Film Festival takes place Nov. 14-19 at various venues, and Martha Wainwright will be performing at The Gateway. Martha Wainwright!

There is so much more going on in this city than you can imagine. Check out all of the listings to plan your week ahead!
