Top picks for getting out Nov. 16-22 including Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, The Northern Pikes and, yes, Peter Mansbridge

It’s been another busy week for concert announcements, so here’s a rundown of the shows that will keep you busy in the months to come: Foo Fighters will bring their Concrete and Gold Tour to the Saddledome on Sept. 6, 2018, with tickets going on sale on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 10 a.m.; Alvvays will perform at The Palace on March 31, tickets on sale Fridiay, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m.; Dashboard Confessional – We Fight Tour will hit MacEwan Hall on Feb. 27; country singer Luke Bryan will be at the Saddledome July 14 for the Stampede, with tickets on sale Friday, Nov. 24 at 10 a.m.; and Our Lady Peace and Matthew Good are at the Grey Eagle Event Centre on March 23, tickets on sale Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. Phew! Lots.

What’s coming up on this snowy start to the weekend? Here — let me fill you in:

Thursday: So much. So. Very. Much. Femme Wave Feminist Arts Festival is into its third year and runs until Sunday, featuring music, art, comedy, workshops… wowza. Over at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks you can check out their performance of Velocity until Nov. 26, or for other dance options there’s Intrinsic by Kyra Newton & Quinn Kliewer at Theatre Junction GRAND until Sunday. Music? The Skydiggers! They’ll be performing Thurs and Fri at The Ironwood *PEOPLE, this show has sold out for both nights apparently. But of course you read my listings ahead of time and had already purchased tickets… 😉 BUT MOVIES! Calgary Underground Film Festival presents CUFF Docs opening today and every single film looks amazing — this festival runs until Sunday, so if you just want to hibernate this weekend, do it in a theatre!

Friday: Verb Theatre is wrapping up its production of Blackbird this weekend at Motel Theatre, finishing on Saturday. For a mixed bag of art and fun, head over to the Voltage Fundraiser and Announcement Party at The Commons — find out what local art enablers Voltage have up their sleeves for their next incarnation. There’s also jazz on tap over at the Jack Singer with Ramsey Lewis – A Night of Chicago Jazz.

Saturday: Opera! The Barber of Seville presented by Calgary Opera runs Saturday, Wednesday and then Saturday again at The Jubilee — I’m already Bugs Bunny-ing the heck out of it in my mind (Figaro!). Opera isn’t your thing? Head to the Strathcona Christie Aspen Community Centre for the Del Barber Trio. You’re set.

Sunday: Astronaut Scott Kelly will speak at the John Dutton Theatre and, OMG, Peter Mansbridge: Live Coast to Coast will be at the Jack Singer. In our city. On Sunday.

Tuesday: (I gave up on keeping this list under 10 ages ago, just so that we’re clear) Get thee to The King Eddy to check out The Northern Pikes – Big Blue Sky 30th Anniversary Tour. I have also had The Things I Do For Money in my head for the past week. It’s been great.

There is so much more going on in this city than you can imagine. Check out all of the listings to plan your week ahead!
