Scene In the Wild Podcask: Episode No. 9, One Yellow Rabbit’s Denise Clarke

It’s another timely Scene In the Wild Podcask.

With One Yellow Rabbit’s High Performance Rodeo taking much of the spotlight in Calgary’s theatre scene this month, I thought it would be a good idea to sit and chat with ensemble member and choreographer Denise Clarke.

Clarke has had an amazing and accomplished career in dance and theatre in Canada, beginning with her classical ballet training as a child and then her ongoing work with OYR and other organizations, including Alberta Ballet and arts groups across the country. She has been appointed as a Member to the Order of Canada and was also recognized by the University of Calgary with an Honourary Doctorate from the Faculty of Arts.

She truly is a Calgary arts treasure.

In this conversation at the Wild Rose Taproom on a cold, snowy Dec. 19, 2017 afternoon she ate some mac and cheese, drank a pint and shared stories from her life and career including: the new production OYR is staging for this year’s Rodeo, a cabaret titled Moon, Moon, No Moon; her ballet beginnings and why she left; the beginnings of the Rabbits as well as the Rodeo itself; the loss of ensemble members Richard McDowell and company co-founder Michael Green; her marriage to acclaimed Calgary visual artist Chris Cran; and the future of the company that is very much her life.

Thanks to Denise for her time, tales and talents and, as always, to Lorrie Matheson, who produces Scene In the Wild at his Arch Audio Studio, and Wild Rose Brewery, who present the Podcask and host us in their amazing Taproom.

Please feel free to listen or download it below or subscribe and download it and other episodes for free from iTunes.

Cheers.
