Top picks for getting out Jan. 11-17 including Quartetto Gelato, The Princess Bride and Memphis Bound Fundraiser

If, like me, you have been hitting the High Performance Rodeo pretty hard so far, you are tired. And that’s unfortunate, but get back at it, because you can nap in February. Here’s some things to look forward to this week:

Thursday: Print(ed) Word Opening – 12 writers and 12 artists presenting 12 months of work at Loft 112. I sense a theme here. If you’re a fan of the band Elk Run & Riot, you’re in luck! They’ll be at the Ironwood tonight so go and check them out. Over at Theatre Junction GRAND you can catch Body So Fluorescent by madonnanera, running until Sunday.

Friday: The Big Studio Arts Collective Launch is happening at the Gerry Thomas Gallery until Saturday, so you can head down and see some great people creating great things. Afterwards head to the Globe! The Fifth Reel presents The Princess Bride featuring The Soft Cure — show starts at 10 p.m., buy tickets early ‘cuz they are going like veritable hot cakes (that’s pancakes to the younger folk). And it’s your last few chances to catch Onegin at Theatre Calgary as part of the High Performance Rodeo — this is a good ‘un! Stunning and so well performed — and fun! Get. There.

Saturday: Misused with Broken Yolk, 5cent Freakshow, The Ringwalds, Freesia & guests over at Distortion, and Tricia Edwards’ Intaglios CD Release will be happening at the Ironwood. At the Palomino you’ll find Wint release with Subjectivity, Local Singles and Body Lens.

Sunday: The Calgary Bluesfest Memphis Bound Fundraiser will take place at Mikey’s on 12th, so go and support some local blues!

Monday: More HPR with the opening of Michelle Thrush’s Inner Elder at Lunchbox Theatre, which runs until Jan. 27th.

Tuesday: Even more HPR with the opening of Empire of the Son at ATP, runs until Jan 28th.

Wednesday: Quartetto Gelato will perform at the Bella Concert Hall.

Go get ’em!

There is so much more going on in this city than you can imagine. Check out all of the listings to plan your week ahead!
