Top picks for getting out Feb. 1-7 including Milky Chance, Frida Kahlo and Doc Soup

February! We’re into the home stretch, everyone and although February is traditionally considered one of the most tedious months, I would politely request that you take a look at all of the great things that are happening in town and reevaluate your stance on this much-maligned month.

Just announced: PVRIS brings their 2018 North American Tour to The Palace on April 26, Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls hit MacEwan Hall on Sept. 12, Ben Harper & Charlie Musselwhite Aug. 20 at the Jubilee, comedian Kevin Hart brings his Irresponsible Tour to the Saddledome on June 8, and Russian Circles with King Woman are at Dickens Pub on April. 4.

Thursday: Celebrate creative innovation and creativity in the media arts community at the Particle + Wave Media Arts Festival taking place at EMMEDIA until Feb. 3, Milky Chance – Blossom Tour with guest Lewis Capaldi perform at MacEwan Hall, and Ghost River Theatre brings us OCD, a one-woman show written by Defiance Theatre’s Louise Casemore, which runs until Feb. 10.

Friday: Twelfth Night presented by Theatre Calgary and in collaboration with The Old Trouts Puppet Workshop, runs until Feb. 24. Stephen Fearing with Oh Susanna at River Park Church. Not a bad start to the month.

Saturday: Frida Kahlo: Her Photos at the Glenbow – opens today and runs until May 20, so you’e got some time. Exposure Photo Festival runs until Feb 28 at various venues, the 11th Annual Rock For Dimes Calgary Fundraiser takes place at The Palace with local bands, Bret “The Hitman” Hart and more. Sleeping with Sirens – Gossip World tour 2018 with guests Set It Off, The Gospel Youth at MacEwan Ballroom.

Tuesday: Portugal. The Man with Hollerado at MacEwan Hall. ‘Nuff said.

Wednesday: Over at Cineplex Eau Claire, Doc Soup – Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story will be one not to miss. Hedy Lamarr! She was amazing. Go to the film and find out why!
