Become a Patreon supporter of theYYSCENE, enter to win flex passes for OYR’s High Performance Rodeo

We probably don’t say it enough, but you have no idea how much we appreciate those who believe in and support what we do at theYYSCENE.

Be it the groups, organizations or establishments we work with on content or sponsorships, those we’re lucky to count as advertisers, and, most importantly, those who read and spread the word of the site to the rest of this community we’re proud to be a part of, we couldn’t do what we do without you.

That goes doubly for those readers who have reached out to us in a more direct way and have become patrons of theYYSCENE through our Patreon campaign.

For those who don’t know, Patreon is a way to donate to a cause (i.e. us) on a monthly basis at whatever amount works best for them or that they deem fitting. For different increments, there are different rewards, such as for a $5 minimum you’ll receive an invite to our annual January shindig and $20 will get you a gift card at the Wild Rose Taproom and all of the other incentives below it.

That also includes the $10 tier, which features that party invite and being eligible for special patrons-only giveaways.

With that in mind and as we head into the season of giving, we’d love to do that to encourage it.

That’s why we’re offering up as a Patreon incentive contest the opportunity to win a pair of flex passes to the 2019 One Yellow Rabbit High Performance Rodeo, which runs Jan. 9 to 27 at various locations around the core.

The lineup, which was just fully unveiled, collects together another remarkable collection of performing arts troupes and individuals from around the world, including: Scott Thompson revisiting his famed Kids In the Hall character in the one-man show Après Le Déluge: The Buddy Cole Monologues; Blood On The Dance Floor from Australia’s ILBIJERRI Theatre Company; the acclaimed Cow Love from France’s Société Protectrice de Petites Ideés; and Calgary’s own Shakespeare Company performing Hammered Hamlet (Drunk Shakespeare), which is exactly what it says it is.

It should, as always, be one of the most entertaining months on this city’s artistic and entertainment calendar.

A pass, which OYR were ridiculously generous to donate to us and have a value of $123 each, gets you four tickets for any of the following productions:

• Live Your Prime, with Damien Frost

• Pearle Harbour’s Chautauqua

• How To Self-Suspend

• This Little Piggie

• God’s Lake

• Crawlspace

• Café Daughter

• Sansei: The Storyteller

• How to Disappear Completely

• bug

• Hammered Hamlet (Drunk Shakespeare)

• Shane Koyczan

• Mozart’s Birthday Party

• Macbeth Muet

• Cow Love

• Broken Tailbone

• Blood on the Dance Floor

• Apres Le Deluge: The Buddy Cole Monologues

You choose how you use your passes, be it one single ticket each to four of those shows, four tickets each to a single production, or any combination that suits you. You will have to book them by phone or in person at the Arts Commons Box Office at least 48 hours in advance of whichever performance it is you want to see.

Or, heck, you could give both or one away as Christmas gifts!

Just make sure they’re enjoyed by someone who truly appreciates the amazing arts experiences that the Rabbits have given this city for the past three decades.

So, here’s how to enter: If you are already a patron of theYYSCENE, just email us at info@theyyscene.com and let us know that you’d love to toss your name in the ring; if you’re not, please head to our Patreon page, pledge a minimum of $10 a month, and then email us at the same address letting us know you’d like to enter.

We’ll pick the winner at random and let them know by the end of the day Friday, Dec. 21, so that  if can make its way under the tree.

And please know that we understand things are a little tight for everyone, so if you can’t support independent arts and lifestyle journalism in this city in a monetary way we appreciate you merely coming to us and spreading the word that theYYSCENE is your go-to guide to getting out in Calgary.

Cheers and happy holidays!
