Sudan Archives named guest curator for 2020 Sled Island

Spring is here!

OK, not technically (or even kinda), but one of the sure signs that things are about to warm up and but soon is the announcement of Sled Island’s guest curator.

This year, that honour goes to Ohio violinist and vocalist Sudan Archives, who will leave her imprint on this year’s festival, which runs in Calgary June 24-28.

The acclaimed artist, whose music begins with R&B but goes madly, experimentally off in all directions, will also perform a headlining set at Central United Church on June 25.

Sudan Archives joins an impressive list of previous Sled guest curators, including Peaches, Deerhoof, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Scott Kannberg (a.k.a. Spiral Stairs of Pavement), Andrew W.K., Kathleen Hanna, Flying Lotus, and last year Julien Baker.

Festival passes are on sale from sledisland.com, Sloth Records (736B 17th Ave. S.W.) and Lukes Drug Mart (112 4th St. N.E.), with Discovery and Discovery Plus Passes now 15 per cent off until Feb. 12. Single tickets for some of the shows will be available in the spring.

Also, until mid May Sled are offering payment plan options, with details available at sledssland.com/passes.
