The National, Lucy Dacus and Orville Peck among first acts announced for Calgary Folk Music Festival

As the cancellations and postponements come fast and furious, perhaps now is a good time to put a pause on all of the bad news for something a little better.

The Calgary Folk Music Festival has announced its initial round of acts who will be attending this year’s event taking place (knock wood) July 23 to 26 on Prince’s Island Park.

First artists announced are: indie rock darlings The National, who will headline the Friday night; ridiculously wonderful singer-songwriter Lucy Dacus, who will make her return to the island; bizarro country star Orville Peck; mesmerizing First Nations’ troubadour William Prince; Canadian pop and soul artist Begonia; Inuit synth songstress Elisapie; and powerhouse Haitian roots collective Lakou Mizik.

Tickets for this year’s Calgary folk fest go on sale March 16 at 11 a.m. from calgaryfolkfest.com.
