Exclusive premiere: Watch the new video for K-Riz’s A Place Where Love Is featuring Yolanda Sargeant and Lyrique

Alberta hip-hop representing. Doing this province proud.

Some of this region’s finest have teamed up on A Place Where Love Is from rising Edmonton MC K-Riz and featuring such stellar local talent as Calgary artists Yolanda Sargeant, as well as Octavio N. Santos and Tina Sol. Local rapper Lyrique also makes a cameo in the video.

It’s a positive and positively laidback, heady jazz-hop track with caramel flow and sweet soul accompaniment from Sargeant — mentioned, along with K-Riz, as among “the 11 Rising Black Canadian Artists You Should Know by Complex and Angeline Tetteh-Wayoe of CBC’s The Block.”

The song is the latest single from the Edmonton rapper’s acclaimed new EP The Room, produced by JDATS and recorded while the artist was sidelined by and recovering from a car accident.

Of the hazy, lazy, lovely track, K-Riz says: “This is the message that I  wanted to close The Room out on. I think this is a message that people need to hear right now — and over and over again. It’s time for people to open their hearts to peace and love.”

For Calgary fans, you’ll recognize most of the video’s locales, with the shoots, taking place, for the most part, fittingly, on the now-iconic Peace Bridge as well as in the surrounding Sunnyside neighbourhood.

Beautifully shot in black and white by director Marlon of MP CUBED MEDIA, it’s a video and track that should continue K-Riz’s — and Alberta’s — rize in the Canadian hip-hop community.
