Jim Cuddy

A summer tradition — Blue Rodeo playing the folk fest or the Stampede. This year, we get the best of both worlds, as Cuddy brings his solo act to the city for a Friday night show, and then earlier in the month, the rest of the band joins him on the midway show. All your faves, for two days in July.

Whitehorse

And what did you do during COVID? Other than gain 15 lbs. Yeah, same. As for the husband-and-wife Canpop pair of Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet, they just, yawn, recorded a trio of albums. All three are as sensational as they are as different from one another — rock, power-pop and blues. All wonderful. Should make for some Saturday night magic.

Jr. Gone Wild

Alt-country or No Depression before such a thing existed, this Edmonton act are, quite simply, the best, most underappreciated group of players and songwriters Canada has ever seen. Bridging the gap between, Waylon, Willie, Earle and, oh, Husker Du, they are a provincial treasure that, while a little longer in the tooth, have not lost an iota of their bark, bite or mange.

Dominique Fils-Aimé

“The artist I’m most excited about. She’s incredible,” says Clarke of the Haitian-descendent Montrealer, who dabbles in blues, jazz and soul. But it’s a wholly original take on all of those forms of music. I really encourage you to take a look at her. I think she’s really incredible. I’m really excited to get her.”

She laughs.“And I’ve never seen her live. So selfishly, I’m really happy that I get to see her live.”
