Mayoral candidate feels office space pinch

A Calgary geophysicist who’s challenging Dave Bronconnier for the mayor’s chair is running his campaign from his downtown office because he can’t find retail space for campaign headquarters.

Sandy Jenkins has been looking for a space since August but says landlords won’t consider a short-term lease. “It hasn’t even been a question of money” says Jenkins. “It’s just a very tight market for retail.”

Jenkins says that although it’s increasingly easier for candidates to communicate with voters using the Internet it’s still important to have a visible campaign office. “It would be better if we were on the street” he says. “Hopefully it won’t be a lethal blow.”
