Nuclear Blast
The U.K. is quickly overtaking the U.S. as modern thrash’s hotbed of action. Home to some of the sub-genre’s more revered acts it now boasts the addition of another shit-hot band brimming with rage riffs and raucous power. Hailing from Reading newcomers Sylosis penetrate the cerebellum with forceful blasts of intricate musicianship bellowing vocals and a hammering pace on this 12-track affair. Inspired by the melodic craftiness of Arch Enemy and In Flames the hyperactivity and clinical sterility of The Haunted and the prodigious guitar attack of old school Testament Conclusion of an Age is a formidable debut. Still it has room for improvement. The band could stand to invite more live feel into their sound as opposed to nailing perfect takes and the singer’s occasional forays into clean soaring vocals are a bit of a strain. It’s surely intended to diverge from the traditional and establish a unique sound. It does but not in the most appealing of manners. Regardless Conclusion of an Age assures that once Sylosis lighten up and embrace their own fury and technicality they will be an unstoppable thrash-death metal force.
