Factual error in Dyer column

Re: “Obama’s Iran overture” by Gwynne Dyer International March 26-April 1 2009.

Dyer’s excellent article is slightly marred by his localizing the Jewish terrorist organization Irgun (IZL) as operating in Israel. Irgun operated in Palestine not Israel and played a crucial role in terrorizing and expelling the indigenous Palestinian population (e.g. massacre of Deir Yassin) and the British occupiers (e.g. blowing up the King David Hotel in Jerusalem and hanging two British soldiers). Following the declaration of Israel in May 1948 and the transformation of Palestine into Israel IZL was disbanded and incorporated into the Israeli army between June and September 1948.

It’s a small error but contributes to the current attempts to write Palestine out of history.
