Saving health care bucks

Alberta and British Columbia will be teaming up to buy health care supplies saving 6 to 12 per cent or up to $75 million.

The provinces had been in talks for several years but Jitendra Prasad of Alberta Health Services says the creation of the health superboard allowed Alberta to move the discussion to the next level. “We have ended up with a very unique agreement” he says.

Supplies that will be ordered jointly include pharmaceuticals general medical and surgical supplies as well as cleaning supplies and some food items.
