Alberta King of Subs
Burger: The King burger ($7.25): a toasted bun with mayo shredded lettuce tomato and pickles on top of a super moist real beef patty topped with Capicolla and melted Swiss cheese. Underneath the patty I found ketchup mustard relish grilled onions and of course the bottom bun.
Sides: Real-deal poutine fries onion rings pickles peppers cretons sauerkraut or coleslaw.
Atmosphere: Despite having Alberta right there in their name Alberta King of Subs is really a little piece of Quebec. On the walls you’ll find Montreal maps and signage tonnes of Les Canadiens fanfare as well as a placemat from Schwartz’s which currently serves up the best smoked meat in Montreal.
Menu: Montreal smoked meat poutine steamed hot dogs hot and cold subs homemade beef jerky and sandwiches.
Decision: The King burger was messy and great. It’s the type of meal that once you start you’re committed to finishing as there’s simply no way to put it down without causing an even greater mess. From the first bite juices poured out onto my plate. The Capicolla was a nice addition and something I had never seen on a burger. Notwithstanding the mess everything was well-balanced and enjoyed.
