LIttle Girls – Concepts

Paper Bag Records

For better or worse the debut album from Little Girls has a vintage alt-rock sound. The bubbling bass fuzzed-out guitars and buried vocals sound about 20 years old even though they’re all brand new. Given the genre and the fact that this home-recorded project was almost a year in the making the title comes as no surprise: A bit Sonic Youth and a bit Joy Division the material on Concepts feels like ideas and musical snapshots rather than full-fledged songs. If you’re a fan of the genre it’s no problem — you know exactly what you are getting into.

Josh McIntyre manages to be haunting and jaunty at the same time but even better thanks to the miracle of digital technology he delivers that ’80s sound you love without all that pesky tape hiss.
