Bonuses "out of hand" says health critic
As Alberta Health Services racked up a $300-million deficit last year it also handed out massive bonuses to senior officials reveal documents obtained by the Liberal party.
Bonuses ranged between $19000 and $130000 despite having no “accurate” or “consistent” way to measure performances say letters signed by AHS CEO Stephen Duckett. Other documents show at least five executives received additional premiums — one worth almost $80000 annually.
An AHS executive says the province was contractually obligated to pay the bonuses and has since changed how it pays employees.
Liberal health critic Kevin Taft calls it “a pretty sweet deal.”
“You get a salary a bonus a premium and a fully taxpayer-funded retirement package. It’s out of hand” he says.”
