Kill Rock Stars
Whether under original moniker Kleenex or after a legal threat prompted a name-change LiLiPUT this Swiss all-female post-punk troupe was far ahead of its time. Formed in 1978 as a twitchy stripped-down quartet the band later expanded to five mixing in sax flute violin and three different frontwomen intoning in both English and German.
This new CD-DVD set adds a few more scraps to the band’s sparse discography spanning 24 live tracks stylish yet sometimes awkward performance clips and the 30-minute Super8 travelogue Roadmovie . All of the classic tunes are accounted for (“Ain’t You” “Nice” “Split”) but unfortunately the sound quality is dubious at best. Newcomers would be wiser to start with Kill Rock Stars’ two-CD or upcoming four-LP reissue of the band’s complete recordings yet for longtime fans this is hot snot.
