Burger : Burger ($10.99) — a generous 10-oz. Alberta beef patty topped with melted cheese and served on a toasted triangle-shaped bun with mayo mustard ketchup and a leaf of romaine lettuce.
Sides : Fries.
Atmosphere : This might be the smallest venue to date. I stopped in on a Friday after work for some takeout and found Buddy’s bustling with buddies enjoying some post-work beverages. The phone line was also busy with pizza pick-up orders and the staff in the front and back of the house were hospitable making me want to head back for an extended visit one day.
Menu : Fresh-baked pizzas and pub fare. I also sampled a calzone that was fantastic.
Decision : The short review: This was a great burger.
Before expanding on that I must ask that you please please keep the emails coming. There is no way I would have found Buddy’s without reader feedback. Thank you.
On to the review.
I liked the triangle bun. It was different and was big enough to support the 10-oz. patty which was really well-seasoned something that I am of two minds about. You see I love a well-seasoned patty but many of the best burgers wear nothing but salt pepper and caramelized meat goodness. The romaine leaf added a good texture replacing the crunch normally attributed to onions. That said I would have liked some onions.
I think that Buddy’s Pizza & Pub should consider upgrading their marquis to say "and burger!" This is definitely one worth checking out. But please don’t all go at once. We won’t fit.
