Outsource Parking Authority says Burrows

‘I don’t plan to pick on any other department of the city’

Mayoral hopeful Craig Burrows plans to make city drivers smile and reduce the city’s looming $60-million deficit if he’s elected. His solution? Privatize the Calgary Parking Authority (CPA).

“I don’t plan to pick on any other department of the city… but we can cut $8 million out of the budget just by outsourcing” says Burrows.

Private parking operators run a more efficient ship than the much-maligned CPA says Burrows. Private operators earn 25 per cent more per parking stall and administration costs are 65 per cent lower than the CPA he adds.

“You can’t tolerate that in a $60-million deficit” says Burrow.

He also promises to reduce downtown parking fees to $2 on weekdays between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and all day on Saturdays. Calgary drivers currently pay $3 to $4 an hour for downtown parking.
