It’s unfortunate perhaps that this best-of collection comes when it does during the fading moments of the easy-listening down-tempo party. Over the course of this duo’s 15-year career songs such as “Lebanese Blonde” have provided a soundtrack for cocktails and sultry evenings as the two musicians have melded electronic music jazz and global rhythms to create an atmosphere conducive for romance or idealistic conversations about Third World politics.
However Rob Garza and Eric Hilton do little to update these tracks for It Takes a Thief inadvertently underscoring the fact that it’s now time to go home. And that’s really too bad. Five years from now It Takes a Thief might help us recall what a great time we all had but right now it just reminds us that we’re tired and looking for breakfast.
