I’m From Barcelona – Forever Today

It’s hard to listen to I’m From Barcelona and not feel like the confusingly named Swedes have it all figured out. Forever Today is pure positive energy — a constant assurance that the best you can hope for is happiness leaving no room for surrender to stress and responsibility. It sings earnestly about everything from early retirement (“Come On”) to um not standing in line (“Get in Line”).

Their music is repetitive mostly a driving beat accompanied by horns pianos handclaps and gang vocals teetering delicately between exuberant power-pop and at-home exercise video. The lyrics have the off-the-cuff feeling of sketch comedy — sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t but the band plows on. They’re not perfect but that’s the point. You might not hear another album this year that makes you feel like you’re in the band as much as this one does.
