The rain was fun for about five seconds. Once the realization that the shower wasn’t going to go anywhere came moods plummeted. People crammed under the tent in the beer garden or alternatively found a tree to hide under. We were teased many times. The sun tried to come out. But by the time the rain stopped we were all soaked. My TOMS which are pretty much the worst choice of footwear for the conditions were disgustingly wet.
But really it didn’t matter. The massive variety of music and sheer talent transported us to a better place. The beer might of helped too.
Highlights were Patrick Watson’s double performance both of which were stunning (and which also proved to us all that it is possible to smoke an entire pack on stage). BRAIDS returned to their hometown with an amazing performance; I’d never seen them live and now consider them to be one of the more impressive shows out there. And it was great to see locals Raleigh and Kris Ellestad playing with Dallas Green (City and Colour) and Daniel Romano (Attack in Black/C&C).
The Folk Fest again proved that it can keep crowds in any situation. It was cold but totally worth it.
